• Testing Schedule

• Students should bring wired headphones and a fully charged computer to school on testing days.

• Please arrive on time to school the days your student(s) is testing.  Late students will have to retest on make-up days.

Please sign your child's choice board for the 5 or more completed play activities. Then, send it back to the classroom teacher. Due Mon., May 8th. Thank you!

• We will be closing down the yearbook purchasing window on Sunday, May 7th! Please get your orders in so you don't miss out. Details are in the link and image below and also in the Mustang Memo.
• If you aren't sure if you've purchased a yearbook yet and want to double check, you can look for a receipt from either Dorian or Pictavo on the card you used, or feel free to email me at tfournier@nsd.org and I can look it up for you. Please don't ask via FB comments as I do not use it often and will not see it in a timely manner.

With SBAC testing starting next week, it is critical that students come to school each day with technology that is ready to go!  If you could please help your students with the following items, it would be a huge help!

1. Fully charged laptops need to come to school each testing day!  We do have some loaners, but not enough to cover all students.  It is very important that they remember to bring their laptops on testing days.

2. Shutdown and restart computers before getting to school.  Please do not have students just close their laptop lids.  We need them to shut them down and then restart them so any waiting updates are applied before testing day.

From May 17-19, fifth graders will attend Cedar Springs Camp. As such, no fifth graders will be on patrol for any of those days. We would love to have any current fourth grade patrol members (regardless of squad), take on extra leadership opportunities. If you think your fourth grader, again, currently on patrol, could help out with extra shifts, please send an email to Deb Fullerton at dfullerton@nsd.org.

The Moorlands Book Exchange is coming back. Soon we'll be asking for students to bring in books for others (more information to come). The dates for the actual exchange (when students can pick books) are June 14 and 15, 2023. 

• Celebrate your child's birthday, kindergarten graduation, or 5th grade "moving up" and support the Moorlands Library! We will be continuing the online model through an Amazon Wish list Ms. Schroeder has put together.  A bookplate will be placed inside stating that it was donated to the Moorlands Library. Your child will be the first student to read the new book before it is returned to the library for all to enjoy.

• Our 2nd and 3rd graders have been reading the OTTER (Our Time To Enjoy Reading) award nominees this year.  Each classroom was given a set of books from KCLS and a generous grant from our own PTA.  We will be culminating with a presentation by our beloved KCLS librarian, Mie Mie, this month!  You can read more about the OTTER books at https://www.wla.org/otter-award

• If you have any K-5 hardcover books in excellent condition, the library is currently taking donations. Please contact Jen Schroeder at jschroeder@nsd.org for more information. 

• The library system will be sending out reminder emails every two weeks about what your Mustang has checked out.  Please return materials when they are read and enjoyed by your child.  Our last week of checkout is May 29th - June 2nd. 

• Save the Date! The annual Study Buddy Plant Sale takes place on June 1 from 3:45-4:30 pm. Cash Only. At the flagpole. 

• Our plant business is entirely student run and driven, so we hope to see you there!

For the first time since the COVID pandemic, Moorlands will be holding spring concerts for grade levels and choir. If your child is in one of these grade levels, please save the date and time. You'll hear their musical skills blooming!

  • Tues. May 16 at 6:30 PM - 7 PM (Moorlands Gym) Grade 1 Spring Concert. Grade 1 Families only. 

  • Tues. May 16 at 7:30 PM - 8 PM  (Moorlands Gym) Grade 2 Spring Concert. Grade 2 Families only. 

Northshore School District's Early Childhood Programs are currently enrolling eligible 3-5 year old children in our free preschool programs. There are 3 different free preschool programs in the district, Head Start, ECEAP, and Ready Start. There is one application process for all 3 programs. Children must have turned 3 on or before 8/31/2022 in order to be eligible for the 2023-24 school year.

The Department of Health (DOH) requires schools to inform families and students about  COVID-19 case numbers and potential outbreaks. This week, there were a total of 0 confirmed cases from our school. The accuracy of our data depends on self-reporting. Thank you for continuing to let the school know if your child tests positive for COVID-19. To view additional information, including school and district trends visit the District’s COVID-19 data dashboard. The dashboard is updated weekly on Monday evenings. 

If your child is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19  keep them home and test for COVID-19. Families can order free COVID-19 tests from the state. Together, we can keep our schools healthy and safe.  

Rapid antigen testing supplies continue to be available. Please let the office know if you need home tests.

Giant Chess at Recess is starting up!   

With the better weather, we are ready to open up the chess and checkers games at recess again.    We're looking for parent volunteers to unlock the bins, monitor and support the games, have the students clean up and then lock up.  

This is at long recess times:  4/5th grades 12:40 - 1:10,   2/3 grades 1:10 - 1:40.   Please contact Mary Neifert at mneifert@nsd.org. 

HEAD START, ECEAP, READY START Head Start, ECEAP (Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program) and Ready Start are early learning programs that provide many free services to eligible 3-5 yr. old children and their families.

School Meal Accounts - Register on Titan

NSD moved from PayPams to Titan in 2020 but many families have not registered in Titan yet due to meals being free for the last two years. All account balances were transferred automatically from PayPams to Titan, but families need to register in order to view or add money to student accounts.

Apply for Free & Reduced Price Meals

Families will need to reapply for benefits by the end of September.
