• Testing Schedule

• Students should bring wired headphones and a fully charged computer to school on testing days.

• Please arrive on time to school the days your student(s) is testing.  Late students will have to retest on make-up days.  

Field day is approaching (June 9th), and we need volunteers! This year we are trying a carnival themed field day where students get to roam and choose their stations. • The 5th graders in Band, Orchestra and Music Exploration classes will be giving concerts showcasing the three 5th grade Music Choice Classes that 4th graders will be selecting in a few weeks for the 2023-24 school year. The concerts will be on Monday June 5th during the regular 5th grade music times and parents of both 4th and 5th graders are welcome to attend. 

• Monday, June 5. 9:30 AM - 10:05 AM. There will be an assembly for Call/Christian and Emerick 4th Grades. The performing groups will feature students from Mrs. Peekel, Mrs. Fullerton and Mrs. Shelton/Swem's classes. 

• Monday, June 5. 10:15 - 10:50 AM. There will be an assembly for Remillard and Lambard's 4th Grades. The performing groups will feature students from Mrs. Schmidtman, Rataezyk/Gordon and Mrs. Klein's classes.

It's the time of the year when we are preparing for the 2023-2024 patrol squad application process. In the next few weeks, this year's captains will visit third and fourth grade classrooms during lunch to provide background regarding patrol and the high expectations we require of each student. After all, safety first! All students in third grade and fourth grade are eligible to apply. We do cap the numbers of students on patrol squads for safety reasons; however, we do encourage all interested students to apply. If your child is interested, please choose one of the two links below. All current fourth grade patrol members need to reapply if they wish to remain on patrol and only current fourth grade patrol members are eligible to apply for captain. Deadline to fill out the Google Form is June 6. We will notify you by the end of June of the outcomes. Also, please know that if your child is chosen to join patrol, we do expect a one-year commitment and there is training in late August.

The Book Exchange is coming back. Please bring in gently used books from May 30- June 9. You can drop off books in room(s) 204 or 601. The Moorlands Book Exchange is coming back. Soon we'll be asking for students to bring in books for others (more information to come). The dates for the actual exchange (when students can pick books) are June 14 and 15, 2023. 

• Celebrate your child's birthday, kindergarten graduation, or 5th grade "moving up" and support the Moorlands Library! We will be continuing the online model through an Amazon Wish list Ms. Schroeder has put together.  A bookplate will be placed inside stating that it was donated to the Moorlands Library. Your child will be the first student to read the new book before it is returned to the library for all to enjoy.

• Our 2nd and 3rd graders have been reading the OTTER (Our Time To Enjoy Reading) award nominees this year.  Each classroom was given a set of books from KCLS and a generous grant from our own PTA.  We culminated with a presentation by our beloved KCLS librarian, Mie Mie, this morning!  You can read more about the OTTER books at https://www.wla.org/otter-award

• The library system will be sending out reminder emails every two weeks about what your Mustang has checked out.  Please return materials when they are read and enjoyed by your child.  Our last week of checkout is May 29th - June 2nd.  

• If a book is damaged or lost forever, please consider replacing it with a hardcover copy before the end of the school year. 

• Our final circulation numbers will be revealed in June!!

“School’s Out For Summer” Maverick Cares event. The focus is to provide a kickstart to a fun, healthy summer. Each summer pack donation will be enclosed in a pack that will include snacks, lightweight outdoor toys, and tickets to a local activity. The activities will be different for each location based on what is nearest, and most accessible.

The Department of Health (DOH) requires schools to inform families and students about  COVID-19 case numbers and potential outbreaks. This week, there were a total of 3 confirmed cases from our school. The accuracy of our data depends on self-reporting. Thank you for continuing to let the school know if your child tests positive for COVID-19. To view additional information, including school and district trends visit the District’s COVID-19 data dashboard. The dashboard is updated weekly on Monday evenings. 

If your child is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19  keep them home and test for COVID-19. Families can order free COVID-19 tests from the state. Together, we can keep our schools healthy and safe.  

Rapid antigen testing supplies continue to be available. Please let the office know if you need home tests.

Giant Chess at Recess is starting up!   

With the better weather, we are ready to open up the chess and checkers games at recess again.    We're looking for parent volunteers to unlock the bins, monitor and support the games, have the students clean up and then lock up.  

This is at long recess times:  4/5th grades 12:40 - 1:10,   2/3 grades 1:10 - 1:40.   Please contact Mary Neifert at mneifert@nsd.org. 

HEAD START, ECEAP, READY START Head Start, ECEAP (Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program) and Ready Start are early learning programs that provide many free services to eligible 3-5 yr. old children and their families.

School Meal Accounts - Register on Titan

NSD moved from PayPams to Titan in 2020 but many families have not registered in Titan yet due to meals being free for the last two years. All account balances were transferred automatically from PayPams to Titan, but families need to register in order to view or add money to student accounts.

Apply for Free & Reduced Price Meals

Families will need to reapply for benefits by the end of September.
