March is Music in Our Schools Month!

• March 1 Northshore Sings!
  Last Tuesday, from 3:30 PM - 7 PM,  20 Moorlands 5th graders participated with 5th graders from 10 other Westside elementary schools to put on a combined concert at the new Northshore Concert Hall at Inglemoor High School.  At the same time, 5th graders from the district's 10 Eastside elementary schools gathered at the Northshore Performing Arts Center at Bothell High School and gave a concert. It was a fun event with opportunities to meet with middle school music teachers and their students - plus time for games, rehearsal time, a Q & A session about middle school, pizza dinner and t-shirts. 

• NSD Students Selected for OAKE National Honor Choirs

  Seven students from the Northshore School District were selected to participate in the Organization of American Kodály Educators (OAKE) Honor Choirs. Six students from Moorlands Elementary will participate in the 160-voice OAKE National Children’s choir which will be featured at the organization’s annual National Conference held in Jacksonville, FL, March 16 - 19, 2023  Students include Connor Durbin, Ilene Klepper, Kayshav Mishra, Saya Oishi, Bliss Pamintuan, and Shruti Prasanna. In addition, Bliss Pamintuan and Saya Oishi were chosen as soloists in the National Children’s Choir Concert. Maddie Jiles from Northshore Middle School will participate in the 150-voice OAKE National Youth Treble Choir. Moorlands choir director, Kelly Griffin will be attending the conference and supporting these students. 

 

Moorland Evening Concerts are Back! 

For the first time since the COVID pandemic, Moorlands will be holding spring concerts for grade levels and choir. If your child is in one of these grade levels, please save the date and time. You'll hear their musical skills blooming!

• Tues, 4/4 @ 7:30 - 8 PM  (Moorlands Gym) Grade 4 Spring Concert

• Tues, 4/27 @ 7 - 7:30 PM (Northshore Concert Hall at IHS) Mustang Choirs' Season Finale Concert. This is a free concert open to the public.

The Mustang Dance-A-Thon kicked off on March 1st! The Dance-A-Thon is the largest biennial fundraiser for Moorlands which supports PTA programs and enhances the Moorlands' community. The money raised is one of the main reasons Moorlands students are able to have field trips, art docent, emergency preparedness as well as classroom and school supplies. This year's goal is to raise at least $35,000 to fund programs and activities for the next two years. On March 17, the entire school will celebrate their fundraising efforts and participate in a 30 minute dance event at the school, regardless of the amount of money raised.

As of Friday morning, the community has raised $6,500!

The Department of Health (DOH) requires schools to inform families and students about  COVID-19 case numbers and potential outbreaks. This week, there were a total of 0 confirmed cases from our school. The accuracy of our data depends on self-reporting. Thank you for continuing to let the school know if your child tests positive for COVID-19. To view additional information, including school and district trends visit the District’s COVID-19 data dashboard. The dashboard is updated weekly on Monday evenings. 

If your child is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19  keep them home and test for COVID-19. Families can order free COVID-19 tests from the state. Together, we can keep our schools healthy and safe.  

Rapid antigen testing supplies continue to be available. Please let the office know if you need home tests.

HEAD START, ECEAP, READY START Head Start, ECEAP (Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program) and Ready Start are early learning programs that provide many free services to eligible 3-5 yr. old children and their families.

School Meal Accounts - Register on Titan

NSD moved from PayPams to Titan in 2020 but many families have not registered in Titan yet due to meals being free for the last two years. All account balances were transferred automatically from PayPams to Titan, but families need to register in order to view or add money to student accounts.

Apply for Free & Reduced Price Meals

Families will need to reapply for benefits by the end of September.
